Drawn From Mama Earth by Eugene Nyaundi
It is often said that for us to understand mindfulness or even appreciate it, we need to look at where it all begins. It is on this topic that can all agree that we are perhaps, what we eat or surround ourselves with.
To be able to move forward we need to get ourselves right, and for me that opportunity came when I started a botanical farm. That will surely speak to the heart of this subject.
In starting the farm my hope was to encourage everyone in the industry to pay homage to where their food comes from. In addition, to pay respect to mindful nutrition and wellness by encouraging each of us to grow our food in the most organic way. This provides the opportunity for each person in the community to eat well, and if they eat well then half the battle is won.
Social wellness plays a key role for the botanical farm as well. As we are able to give our visitors more information and knowledge about the various botanicals that we grow, we can educate our visitors about the botanicals themselves. We are also able to teach them about their extensive uses and the most natural and healthy ways of utilizing them for medicinal ailments and illnesses. For example, borage aids and teats coughs, fever, and depression.
We are also able to create social conservation as well as support the wellness platform through the growth of various indigenous and exported seedlings across the farm. This creates and builds a better biodiversity for the earth around us. It is essential and important to contribute to the aromatherapy aspect of health and wellness.
My hope is that as we look to focus more on health that we do not forget to start with what is most important. We can only win this battle together as a community. My advice to each of you is to focus on the following sustainable solutions in the coming years. When we understand where our food comes from we are able to pay our respect to nature and care for not only the food but also to the purveyors that get it to us and the farmers that grow it for us.
We do have a long way ahead, but if we can equip each other with this knowledge then we can start to understand that shopping locally and within our communities is in fact a form of wellness. Thus in buying local we not only boost the local community, but pay respects to the dollar of the local artisan purveyors that seek to bring you closer to the wellness that we each long for. In doing this, we also take the time to appreciate the fact that not all produce is available in season and with that in mind, we can focus on seasonality, sustainability and mindfulness.
In conclusion, the best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then can we feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles.
