FOH: What is your name?

Dani: Dani McQuarrie


FOH: Your current job title and place of business?

Dani: Beverage Director at Bulleit Distilling Co. and Social Media/Events Coordinator at Focus on Health

FOH: How do you define mindfulness?

Dani: Awareness of space and setting intention with every aspect of being. A deep and thorough understanding with intention in my actions.

FOH: How does mindfulness play a part in your everyday life?

Dani: It comes up daily and is utilized in every aspect of my life. From the time I start my day, figuring out my personal/work schedule and how I navigate successfully, the way I parent/co-parent, working through my own personal feelings and emotions, working towards the things I want to accomplish, finding balance in my work and single parent life. Trying to find peace within myself and moving forward in recovering from past situations.

FOH: How do you actively work to create a work/life balance for yourself?

Dani: This i sometimes struggle with but recently I have been more aware and mindful, and I try to set myself up for success because no one else can do that for me. It is hard to get alone time, and although I do have mom guilt over taking some me time I do try to give myself one day where I do things I want to do by myself. I work to get a little self care and forgive myself when I don't feel as if I'm doing enough. Patience for myself. Also, sometimes it requires working with what you got, even if it is very little.

FOH: What is something you would like to see change in the Hospitality Industry?

Dani: I would like to see more conversations included in all establishments about health and wellness in it's many forms. Put down the idea that we are machines or servants. We are humans with needs, just as our guests. I would like to see more safe space created equally for all BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ and resources for them as well as those struggling with addiction and mental health issues.
