Brown and Balanced Launch Party

Join us for our launch party co-moderated by Brown & Balanced creator Josh Davis. 100% Proceeds from registration will support Brown and Balanced. Tune in to hear about what Focus On Health has planned for Black History Month.

Borrowed Black Hands

When we look at traditional school systems and see the education that they are providing in subject areas such as history, the importance of ensuring the full picture and story are being shared is clear and transparent.

We are going to take a walk through history dating back to the 1400s and discuss the impact and innovations of African Americans in food, spirits, wine, presidential campaigns and even in activism all the way to current day. Each panelist will be discussing moments in history that resonate and inspire them to continue the work that they are doing in their respective fields, positions and communities.

Panelists: Cha McCoy, Tiffanie Barriere, Lynn House, Adrian E. Miller, and Duane Sylvestre

Book Club: So You Want To talk abou race?

Join us for a one hour book club to discuss New York Times best selling author, Ijeoma Oluo's book, So You Want To Talk About Race.

Ijeoma Oluo guides readers of all races through subjects ranging from intersectionality and affirmative action to "model minorities" in an attempt to make the seemingly impossible possible: honest conversations about race and racism, and how they infect almost every aspect of American life.

TRY TO BE A RAINBOW IN SOMEONE’S CLOUD

To be the rainbow in someone's cloud means to cultivate loving kindness as a daily practice in your life. It means tuning in to your heart, practicing empathy and using that empathy to connect to the people around you in a meaningful way. We all have the opportunity to be someone's rainbow. Join us as we discuss our respective fields of work and the ways in which we reflect on the rainbows and the clouds to facilitate change.

Panelists: Sherri Bradley, Toure´ Folkes, Kala Garner, Denise Gilmore-McPherson, Solomon Thomas, J'Nai Williams

If We Don’t Heal The Hood, Who Will?
Creating Equitable Spaces and Opportunities

Equity and opportunity are two words that have been heavily utilized as the Black Lives Matters movement continues to pick up momentum. But what do they really mean? Join us as we dive in deep to explore the words equity and opportunity and how they relate to our respective fields of work, how psychological safety influences the way we create and receive opportunities, utilizing subject matter experts and addressing the African American achievement gap.

Panelists: Simone Mayers, Josh Davis, Joey Oteng, Andrea Meriwether and Mia Love.
